The 16th player in the world, Kvitová, confirmed an excellent start to the season. The winner of 29 WTA tournaments has so far not dropped a set in her four matches. Against Cheng Chin-wen, she lost her serve twice in the first set, but at 4:5 and 5:6 she didn’t allow her opponent to serve.
In the shortened match, Kvitová was losing 3:6, but she turned the set in her favor by winning five balls in a row. Cheng Chin-wen then summoned a physiotherapist to court and after a short consultation gave up the duel.
27-year-old Krejčíková, who knocked out American Amanda Riske-Amritrajava earlier in the tournament, lost her serve three times in the first set against Kasatkina, and the Russian took the lead in the 33rd minute.
In the second set, both players held serve until the dramatic finale. In it, Krejčíková faced three match points at 5:6. The Brno native managed to deflect two, but Kasatkinová has already capitalized on the last one.
Today, Kateřina Siniaková will also take part in the event of the Czech tennis players, who will face the four seeds Caroline Garcia from France.
Lehečka wasn’t enough for Norrie
Czech tennis player Jiří Lehečka will not play in the quarterfinals in Auckland. In the second round, he lost 4:6, 7:6 and 3:6 against the second seed of the tournament Cameron Norrie from Great Britain.
Lehečka played the match well and led 4:2 in the first set, but the 12th player in the world Norrie turned the score around with four games in a row. The 21-year-old Czech won the second set in a tie-break with a ratio of 7:4.
However, the deciding set didn’t work out for Leheček, who clinched his place in the main competition in qualifying and did not advance to the third quarterfinal on the ATP circuit. He was quickly losing 0:3 and Norrie had already kept the lead.
