vida-Mjka: “A substantial salary increase for employees can only be a matter of form”
In the course of the public debate about the private hospital financing fund (PRIKRAF) that flared up last week, one thing is clear to Gerald Mjka, chairman of the health department of the vida union: “We have an issue. If the private hospitals are sponsored by public money, this should also be reflected in the salaries of the employees. ”It is a good thing that the working groups on collective bargaining for employees of private hospitals will begin this week of all times. “Our colleagues in the private hospitals do an excellent job. And especially during the pandemic, where they were able to show that they are also a reliable partner when it comes to caring for patients with statutory health insurance, ”continued unionist Mjka.
The vida trade unionist emphasizes that colleagues from the public hospitals earn significantly more than those in the private sector, while the patients who are taken on receive the same benefit. “An adjustment would be more than overdue here,” says Mjka, who also insists that part of the state aid granted is also reserved for employees. In times of crisis in particular, wage increases would stimulate the economy. Much of this money is pumped into the economy through consumption and is a powerful tool for an economic upswing in the country. “And as you can hear, there is still enough money on the employers’ side to finance political parties,” says Mjka and concludes: “This funding is your right, but when there is enough money, it is time that the employees too get their fair share. “
