KV Mechelen and Besnik Hasi can breathe a sigh of relief. After 5 days of play, the team won for the first time. KV did that on the pitch of Antwerp after a very good first half and Antwerp in particular mediocre. Bas Van Eynden won the game with the only goal.
Antwerp had a good chance to move towards the top divisions of the rankings again after a changeable 6/12 after four games. But the visitors from Mechelen also needed the points as they were only able to collect two points.
KV Mechelen will not let itself be done
The home team started out as the better team, but it was difficult to create chances. So it was KV Mechelen who is the first to kick the goal. Pflücke caught the ball with a bit of luck, but couldn’t get his shot across enough, allowing Lammens to make a relatively easy save.
The game seemed to have broken wide open as two minutes later Chery went through the Mechelen defense as if they were pins in training. However, it didn’t force De Wolf to make a save but he almost kicked the ball wide. Janssen also came close to scoring, but the Dutchman fell just short of a low cross from Kerk.
The visitors took control and played together dangerous phases before Lammens’ goal. It looked like they had the 0-1 storm at their feet, but in the clash they couldn’t get past the Antwerp keeper who made it wide.
Just before half time the visitors scored a goal. Pflücke got the ball again after a corner that was cleared away. This time he crossed with the outside of his foot and substitute Bas Van Den Eynden came in at the right time to score 0-1 in front of Van Den Bosch.
Son of Antwerp
Even after the break, Mechelen was the first threat, but neither Storm nor Ngoy could threaten Lammens. Antwerp they had to change the gun again but failed to do so, to the dissatisfaction of the supporters.
The Wolf is firm
In the last quarter, opportunities finally arose for the Old Grand. However, De Wolf was doing well in goal for the Antwerp striker. First he made a good save on a hard header from Alderweireld, then he stood upright on a close-range shot by Vincent Janssen. Riedewald was also kept from the equalizer in injury time by good goalkeeper De Wolf.
Neither team came closer to a goal, which meant that KV Mechelen won 0-1 against Antwerp, just like last season. So the Great Old One is still in the middle of the rankings. KV Mechelen is not far behind, but will be especially happy to have managed to win for the first time this season.
