After an hour of the match, things looked good for KV Mechelen. Just before half time, Bates scored and 10 minutes after the break Bassette even doubled the lead. The Kakkers seemed on their way to an easy victory.
But then Ito came on for the visitors. And with 2 goals he turned the match. With a few minutes left to play after the Limburgers’ third goal, there was nothing left for KV Mechelen.
KV Mechelen could have done well in play-off 2 and the battle for the last European ticket. It could have (temporarily) jumped over AA Gent and distanced itself from Sint-Truiden. But now it is Sint-Truiden that is on the same level.
