Kuwait to strengthen indigenization also in the government sector

Kuwait: Kuwait plans to step up indigenization. Parliament’s Legal and Legislative Commission approved a proposal to completely remove foreign workers from the government sector and hire natives.

The authorities are planning to speed up the ongoing indigenization processes in various government departments and to implement full indigenization within one year. The local newspaper reported that a proceeding has been initiated in this regard. This is part of the policy to provide more jobs for the natives.

Foreigners will be awarded one year in posts. Then, as soon as the natives become capable, they will stop renewing their work permits. Currently, there are more than four lakh government employees in Kuwait. Twenty percent of them are foreigners. Thousands of government sector expats in Kuwait lost their jobs and left Kuwait due to previous indigenization. If the law is implemented, many expatriates, including the Malayalis, will fall into crisis.
