Kuwait Implements New Policy: Collecting Electricity and Water Dues from Expatriates Traveling Abroad

Kuwait City: Kuwait has started collecting electricity and water dues from foreigners traveling outside the country. Officials informed that special arrangements have been made at the airport for this purpose. The Ministry of Home Affairs had earlier clarified that from September 1, expatriates will not be able to leave the country without paying their dues.

The law to collect traffic fines in a similar manner was also implemented in the country last month. Currently, individuals and vehicles cannot leave the country without paying traffic violation fines. Other ministries providing essential services to expatriates are tipped to follow suit.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has stated that expatriates who wish to travel must settle their outstanding electricity and water bills and everyone is bound to comply with the legal provisions.
