Kuwait City: New Law Allows Private Sector Workers to Work Part-Time and Remotely from Home

Kuwait City: Private sector workers are allowed to work part-time in Kuwait. The action follows the proposal of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Talal Al Khalid Assabah.

With the coming of the law, private sector employees will be able to engage in part-time work with employers who are not genuine sponsors. The Home Minister has directed the Public Authority for Manpower to prepare rules of procedure.

Employees have also been allowed to work remotely from home. The law will come into effect from the first of January. Employees must get permission from the employer to seek part-time work in another company. The new directive says that part-time work should be a maximum of four hours a day. However, the Manpower Authority clarified that the contract sector is not included in the new decision. .The decision will allow companies to utilize existing workers in the country instead of recruiting new workers from abroad.
