Würzburg. Parallel to the preparation of the emergency accommodation for Ukrainian refugees in the Pleichachtalhalle and the Kürnachtalhalle, the city of Würzburg is still striving to be able to offer those who arrive here subsequent accommodation as quickly as possible. For this purpose, the places in the Reuterhaus were first increased by another ten and the former nursing station of the BRK in Henlestraße was equipped for 48 people. In the short term, the Kürnachtalhalle will also be set up as emergency accommodation for around 160 people. Further decentralized accommodation options will follow.

A possible conversion into a decentralized accommodation and a subsequent move is preceded by a complex process of identifying, inspecting, checking possible objects, permits and the conclusion of contracts. “I am infinitely grateful to my team from the social affairs department around Manuel Herrlein, the office for civil and fire protection, the building supervision and the real estate management department for their fast and reliable activity and support in the search, evaluation and conversion of decentralized living space. Since the city of Würzburg took in almost 400 asylum seekers above the target even before the war in Ukraine, it is difficult to quickly provide adequate housing for the Ukrainians,” says social officer Dr. Hülya Düber visiting the ten new spaces in the Reuterhaus, the 48 in Henlestraße and the 80 in the Pleichachtalhalle emergency shelter. There will also be solutions for pets at the locations: “After everything that people have experienced, we will not separate anyone from their pets without need and expect another emotional issue,” promises the social officer.
“The terrible war in Ukraine is forcing hundreds of thousands of people to flee. This fills me with dismay, but at the same time I am happy about the willingness to help and the quick action to offer the refugees protection,” says Mayor Christian Schuchardt. stw
