KUOW Book Club: January’s Grief & Healing Fiction Pick

This ‌month, the KUOW Book Club ‌delves into the compelling world of Juan⁤ Carlos Reyes’‍ “Three Alarm Fire,” a recently published collection of short stories from Hinton Publishing.

published in October, ⁣”Three Alarm Fire” “examines the range of grief ⁤and healing we navigate as Americans,” offering a poignant exploration of the American experience.

Reyes’ work masterfully‍ weaves together diverse characters and themes, including ⁢immigration, identity, family⁤ legacies,‌ sexuality, ⁢trauma, and the complexities of belonging in a ‍society grappling ‍with ‌cultural ‌tensions. ‌ His ⁣background as an associate professor of creative writing at Seattle University adds another layer of depth to his insightful storytelling.

  • Read through “All Apologies” by January 13th.
  • Complete the book by‌ January 27th.

Adding⁤ to the excitement, author Juan Carlos Reyes has agreed to an interview following the ⁢conclusion of our reading. Details‌ will be announced⁤ later this month. As always, a newsletter will be sent mid-month and upon completion of the book.

February’s Book‍ Club Pick:⁣ A Culinary or Graphic Novel Adventure?

A friendly heads-up: February’s⁢ selection is still under consideration. Given February’s shorter length, a different approach is being explored. ⁤The⁤ possibilities⁢ are exciting: a ⁤captivating graphic ⁣novel or ⁤a fun, interactive cook-along using a local cookbook. KUOW’s Ruby de Luna ⁢has ⁢even‌ suggested the latter, an idea that holds significant appeal.

Do you have a preference? Share your thoughts! Your input will help shape our February reading ⁢experience.

One final⁢ note: This‌ year, book selections will be announced on the first of each month to allow ample time for reading and⁣ engaging discussions.

Join the KUOW ‍Book Club⁣ and let’s explore the power of storytelling together!
