I believe that many Engadget readers are “Mobile Suit Gundam” (Taiwan: “Mobile Suit Gundam”), “Little Shuangxia”, “King of Braves”, “Armored Cavalry VOTOMS” (Taiwan: “Armored Cavalry Bodham Hereby), fans of “Magic King” and so on, should know the hero behind these classic works, Mr. Kunio Ogawara, the industry’s first mechanical design master! If you are in Hong Kong from April 1st to June 4th, you can make a pilgrimage to the “Ocean Park x “Father of Gundam” Kunio Okawara 50th Anniversary Exhibition” that opened today. This is the first time in Hong Kong to display Mr. Ogawara’s original manuscripts, including the illustrations of “Mobile Fighter G Gundam” specially drawn for the Hong Kong exhibition, and a set of four cross-work mecha illustrations. It is a very rare opportunity!
A total of 300 drawings of Mr. Ogawara were exhibited at this conference, including rare mecha settings and original works. In addition to precious illustrations, the conference also featured the “Mecha Smurfs” model exhibited in Hong Kong for the first time, as well as “Strike Freedom Gundam”, “RX-78-2 Gundam”, “Shuangxia Dog” and the first exhibited The “spiritual beast nine-tailed fox” and other standing statues for everyone to take a group photo. At the same time, the master also brought 18 mechanical models and decorations made by himself, adding color to the exhibition. There is also an army of ten 1.7-meter-high “MS-06F Zaku II” near the exhibition hall, which is a good place to check in.
Of course, there are limited items in this exhibition! The pop-up store at the venue exclusively pre-sells two Hong Kong limited edition tourbillon watches (valued at HK$42,800 / about NT$166,510) of “Okawara Bangnan 50th Anniversary Exhibition”. God Gundam, each model is limited to 100 pieces worldwide. Another pre-order item is Kunio Okawara’s 50th Anniversary Edition RG Gunpla Gunpla (worth HK$360 / about NT$1,400).
There are commemorative edition Octopus sets (limited to 1,000 sets), collector’s edition metal embossed paperweight sets of classic characters (limited to 200 sets), and limited works of the “Mobile Suit Gundam” series and other works in stock. If you have an iPhone, you can download three “venue-limited” Kunio Okawara-themed e-Octopus cards on the spot!
If you are interested in visiting the exhibition, you need to purchase the “Ocean Park x Ogawara Kunio 50th Anniversary Exhibition” package, priced at HK$448 (same price for both sizes). Ocean Park “Unlimited FUN Admission Pass” holders only need to purchase HK$200 value-added tickets to enter the main exhibition hall.
