Kungs, the Toulon DJ ignited the Cannes Electronic Beaches scene

Friday, August 5, for the launch party of Plages Electroniques in Cannes, the DJ from Toulon Kungs delivered a sensational show in front of an excited and sweaty audience. We met him a few minutes before his concert.

The 25-year-old is relaxed when we meet him on a terrace of the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, a few minutes before his concert. At the same time, it’s as if he were playing at home this Friday, August 5. Kungs grew up in Toulon, a few kilometers away.

Cannes and the Croisette have held no secrets for him for several years now. But it was the first time that the DJ from Toulon made his sounds resonate on the big stage of the Electronic Beaches. It was scheduled for 2020 but a stroke of luck, with the resumption of the epidemic, the festival had to be canceled.

There is always a particular emotion before a concert but being at home in the South, it adds a little extra pressure because I really want to do well.

Being able to play on a beach also adds an original note compared to the other scenes he is used to browsing. “When we play on the beach, thePeople seem pretty excited, so I’m super happy to be here,” he smiled.

Last March, the Toulonnais released their second album entitled Cthe Azur. How not to see a reference to his native land, the Côte d’Azur?

It’s a tribute album, first to the club, but it’s also a tribute to the Côte d’Azur. It’s a tribute to the south of France, it’s a tribute to Toulon, where I grew up. I wanted to make a positive, sunny and unifying album.

During confinement, “Club Azur” was the name he gave to the live sessions during which he played for hours, every Saturday. “Of the thousands of people logged on every weekend to party with us, virtually, he remembers fondly. And so for me it made sense that the album was called that.”

A weekly meeting, an album then… a label? Club Azur could take several forms, the DJ tells us. “Club Azur, it’s going to be a bit of an entity but it’s above all a state of mind”, he declares.

Whatever happens, the young man who began to experience success even before he was 20 years old, is always motivated to compose new songs and make the crowds dance.

When I create my music in the studio, I imagine myself playing it at a festival or in a club because in those moments on stage, I receive a lot of people.

His desire to do well and his affection for his audience were well felt during his show. Despite the moist heat, beach attendants let off steam on its tubes, with their feet in the sand.
