‘Kung Fu Panda 4’ Dominates Box Office with Over 400,000 Opening Day Viewers

The leader in advance sales is ‘Crime City 4’, which opens on the 24th of this month, and the Hollywood animation ‘Kung Fu Panda 4’ topped the box office by attracting well over 400,000 viewers on its opening day. According to the integrated movie theater ticket network on the 11th, ‘Kung Fu Panda 4’ ranked first with 429,000 people (62.1% of sales share) watching it on the opening day and the day before the general election.

‘Kung Fu Panda 4’ is a sequel to the ‘Kung Fu Panda’ series released eight years later, and is the story of the adventures of Po, who has been reborn as a dragon warrior, and sets out to find a successor under the orders of his teacher Shifu.

‘Kung Fu Panda’ is a popular series in which the first part (2008) attracted 4.65 million viewers in Korea, followed by the second part (2011, 5.06 million people) and the third part (2016, 3.98 million people). Director Jang Jae-hyun’s ‘Breakfast’, which has been showing its support despite the onslaught of new films, was pushed to second place by attracting over 70,000 viewers (11.0%) the previous day.

The cumulative number of viewers increased to 11.464 million, surpassing ‘Haeundae’ (11.453 million), which ranked 18th in the box office of all Korean movies.

The noir film ‘Goldfinger’ starring Liang Chao-wei (Liang Zhaowei) and Liu Dehua (Liu De-hua), which was released the day before, started in 7th place with over 10,000 people (1.4%) watching it. As of this morning, ‘Crime City 4’ starring Ma Dong-seok, which will be released on the 24th, is ranked first at 29.4%, followed closely by ‘Kung Fu Panda 4’ (28.8%).
