Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) has no problem with the plans of a public lawyer as well as a Papuan human rights activist, Veronica Koman report the government to the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination PBB (UN-CERD).
Vero will file the complaint if members of the Indonesian Air Force who step on the heads of Papuans are not brought to justice.
The Special Staff (Stafsus) of Menkumham Yasonna H. Laoly, Ian Siagian said that his party respects the rights of everyone. According to Ian, his party also cannot arrest Veronica if they want to take the case to the international realm.
“We have to respect everyone’s rights, if he wants to take him to the international stage, we can’t hold him,” said Ian when contacted CNNIndonesia.com via short message, Thursday (28/7).
Ian said that the government was ready to face Veronica’s plan. He said the government would not be worried and afraid about the report.
“We are a sovereign country, always ready to face all challenges and problems. Don’t worry and be afraid,” he said.
Previously, human rights activists who are aggressively voicing issues regarding Papua, Veronica Koman stated that she would report the government to the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (UN-CERD/United Nation-The Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination).
The report will be filed if the government prosecutes two members of the Indonesian Air Force who stepped on the heads of Papuans in a military court.
“That’s my summons to the Indonesian government. As soon as the two soldiers start the process at the military court, I will file a report to the UN-CERD,” Veronica said when contacted CNNIndonesia.com, Wednesday (28/7).
Vero urged that the two Indonesian Air Force personnel be processed in the general court. According to him, it is very important that the legal process for the two members of the Indonesian Air Force is transparent and not only subject to internal sanctions.
Previously, two members of the Indonesian Air Force were caught on camera stepping on the head of a civilian in Merauke, Papua. The video went viral on social media and received criticism from various parties.
TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tjanjanto ordered KSAU Air Chief Marshal Fadjar Prasetyo to remove Danlanud and Dansatpom. Serda with the initials A and Prada V have been named as suspects of persecution.
