Foreign Secretary Dmitry Kuleba called Germany’s and France’s refusal to accept Ukraine into NATO in 2008 a “strategic mistake”.

The head of the Foreign Ministry noted that if Ukraine were a member of NATO, then Russia would not dare to unleash a war. Kuleba recalled how in 2008 Germany and France blocked the intentions of the United States and allies to accept Ukraine into the Alliance.
According to Kuleba, Berlin and Paris made a strategic mistake, and now the Ukrainian people are paying for it.
“It is not Germany or France that is paying for this mistake, but Ukraine,” Kuleba stated.
Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel recently stated that she did not regret that Ukraine was not taken to NATO in 2008. She believes that this decision was the right one.
Before the start of a full-scale war, Jens Stoltenberg noted that the Russian Federation will not decide whether Ukraine will be a member of NATO in the future.
