Kuleba emotionally commented on Canada’s decision on the turbine for Nord Stream

The head of the Foreign Ministry emphasizes that the corresponding decision of Canada will increase the problems and will contribute to the destruction of the sanctions regime against the Russian Federation.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba considers the decision of Canada to transfer to Germany erroneous turbine for Nord Streambut does not see “zrada” in this.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, Kuleba said this during an online briefing, which was broadcast on the social network Facebook.

I certainly do not see “Zrada”, but we honestly told our Canadian and German partners that what they did was a mistake that puts Russia in a winning position. This solution will not solve the problems. This decision will only increase the problems,” Kuleba said.

At the same time, the Foreign Minister noted that Canada and Germany are sovereign countries and have the right to make the decisions they see fit.

“But we do not agree with this decision, and in principle, we are against the approach when the sanctions regime should adapt to the whims or whims of the Russian Federation,” Kuleba stressed.

The minister added that the Russians today “created a problem with gas supplies in Germany, they demand to change the sanctions legislation of Canada for them,” and “tomorrow they will create another problem, again they will demand to change something.”

According to Kuleba, in this way “the sanctions regime will simply be destroyed.” “This is precisely the main danger of this decision,” the diplomat said.

At the same time, the head of the Foreign Ministry recalled that a lawsuit was filed in Canada by the World Congress of Ukrainians and a Ukrainian lawyer of Canadian origin Daniel Bilak against this decision.

“Let’s see how its consideration will end, but even in Canada itself, many people disagree with this decision that was made. Therefore, this is not only the position of Ukraine. This is the position of all people who understand that such precedents lead to the destruction of the sanctions regime created by actually by the same countries,” Kuleba said.

The war in Ukraine and the situation with the turbine:

On June 20, 2022, Peskov said that Russia is ready to supply gas through Nord Stream in full, but for this Europe must return overhauled turbines.

On July 9, 2022, information appeared that Canada had agreed with Germany on turbine return Siemens for Nord Stream.

On July 9, Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly said that Canada would make an exception to the sanctions imposed against Russia and return to Germany a turbine that is needed to service the Nord Stream gas pipeline and is currently undergoing maintenance at a Canadian facility owned by Siemens.

It is known that the turbine will first be sent to Germany and then delivered to Gazprom. In Germany, they say that the return of the turbine will deprive Russia of a reason to keep deliveries well below normal levels. On July 8, Moscow announced that it would increase gas supplies to Europe if the turbine was returned.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Ministry of Energy made a joint statement in connection with the decision of the Canadian government to issue a permit for the return of the repaired Nord Stream 1 turbine to Germany. As noted in the statement, “this dangerous precedent goes against the rule of law and will have only one consequence – to strengthen Moscow’s sense of impunity.”

The US State Department supported Canada’s decision to return the turbine for Nord Stream. They believe that thanks to this, Germany and other European countries will be able to replenish their gas reserves, which will increase their energy security and resilience, and will allow them to resist Russia’s use of energy as a weapon.

On July 10, 2022, Canada accepted fateful decision regarding Nord Stream.
