Kuki TV, which was already subscribed to by 50,000 viewers at the end of last year, is changing its ownership structure. The popular IPTV, launched in 2014, was created by the joint efforts of Smart Comp (Netbox operator) and Planet A (AIM network operator). Smart Comp will now buy half of its share from the partner, however AIM users can continue to receive this IPTV.
Neither party revealed the financial background or the exact reason for the transaction. But Smart Comp promises that full ownership will allow it to develop services faster. The priority this year will be to expand the number of channels in 4K / UHD resolution, currently only the Love Nature UHD documentary station is on offer.
„Thanks to the new agreement, Netbox can put all its dreams, ideas and customer feedback into Kuki, creating a unique product that customers cannot allow. In addition, the share repurchase will allow us to effectively invest in the further development of the platform, we can expand to other markets and we will have freer hands in planning strategy and marketing activities for customers. Thus, Kuki enters the new year with even stronger foundations and even greater optimism,“Says Marek Bukal, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Smart Comp.
One important point in the transaction is not mentioned in the press release of both companies. Planet A two years ago bought T-Mobile. And although it left the company independent, T-Mobile’s strategy is to buy smaller regional ISPs and expand its own network without having to build everything on a green field. Through the acquisition of Planet A, it acquired optical, cable and wireless networks in Central Bohemia within the reach of tens of thousands of households. In addition, T-Mobile is building its own Internet TV, so it is probably not interested in participating in the development of a “competing” Kuki.
