KTSV Preussen: The traditional club is reflecting on what helped it to be successful in the past and is repositioning itself.
One of the most beautiful sports facilities in the world does not provide a beautiful picture Lower Rhine for several years. Decay wherever you look. The grandstand is crumbling. The terrace of the clubhouse is dilapidated.

There is an immense renovation backlog on the Hubert Houben Kampfbahnwhich, with good reason, is repeatedly given the attribute “venerable”. The Prussians are longingly waiting for the renovation that has been announced for years, the artificial turf pitch with floodlights, the restoration of the historic buildings, the tartan track for the athletes. According to the city administration’s plan, things should finally start in autumn 2022.
KTSV Preussen chases after successes
The traditional club’s last major success was eleven years ago. At that time, it was not Borussia Mönchengladbach, 1.FC Köln, Schalke 04 or Borussia Dortmund that became West German champions of the 32+, but the Krefeld Prussians. And it is precisely this success that shows the dilemma of KTSV Prussia 1855. Many players from the successful 90s, when all youth teams played in the Niederrheinliga and competed with the youngsters of the Bundesliga teams and successfully competed against clubs like Fortuna Düsseldorf, Alemannia Aachen, RW Essen and Wuppertaler SV as the “first” in the third division , are still there – but only with the old men.
Exactly this squad also forms the basic structure of the six-person senior management board, which wants to position itself much more broadly in the elections next year, as chairman Peter Intveen reports: “It is always difficult to win people over to volunteer work, but we have Many discussions found some candidates who will help us to tackle our planned upheaval. “

So has also been supporting for a few months Ludwig Gabelin again the board of directors as sponsor representative. Gabelin has been a Prussian member for over 40 years and has held numerous honorary positions with the Prussians during this time. Whether as a youth coach, board member, stadium announcer or webmaster – there was always something for him to do before the time became too short for professional reasons and he stepped significantly less in the past 15 years. Gabelin formulates his goals as follows: “In the medium term, we have to become an attractive club for talented youth footballers again. This primarily requires two levers: On the one hand, we have to offer a modern facility with good training opportunities and, on the other hand, we have to employ trained youth coaches who further develop our youngsters both athletically and pedagogically. “
Money factor
Both cost money. While the redevelopment of the square is borne by the city, suitable coaches have to be paid for by the club. And this is exactly where the board is already trying to start. “The potential of Preussen Krefeld is huge, it just has to be raised,” says treasurer Sebastian Keussen. “We are trying to build up a financial cushion so that we will be able to tackle our goals after the renovation work has been completed.” In addition to classic sponsorship, events such as the cup game held by KFC Uerdingen on the Hubert Houben arena in September should also contribute over 1500 enthusiastic spectators.
Ultimately, however, it will not work without volunteer staff. And here is the most important task. Youth leader Thomas Hauser will give up his job with the Prussians by the end of 2022 at the latest. Until then, the Prussians are looking for a successor and, if possible, a small team to support them. The timely announcement by Hauser guarantees detailed training.
