KTM’s Bicycle Division Faces Shutdown: Husqvarna and GasGas Brands at Risk
The bicycle division of the renowned motorcycle manufacturer KTM is set to be discontinued, marking a critically important shift in the company’s strategy. According to a recent report, this decision could spell the end for the Husqvarna and GasGas bicycle brands, which have been part of the Pierer New Mobility portfolio.
on January 17th,a banking round involving Pierer New Mobility,a subsidiary of KTM AG,took place. This meeting, reported by the Upper Austrian News, cited the third report by Peter Vogl, the renovation recipient for KTM AG. The discussions centered on the “processing” of Pierer New Mobility and its subsidiaries, effectively signaling the winding down of the bicycle business.
The report outlines plans to shut down the company by 2025, with a warehouse sale already underway. Despite the closure, warranty claims will reportedly remain valid until 2027, ensuring some level of consumer protection during the transition.
The End of Husqvarna and GasGas Bicycles?
The shutdown is expected to bring an end to the Husqvarna and GasGas bicycle brands. While these brands face discontinuation, Felt, another brand under the Pierer New Mobility umbrella, remains profitable. However, the Upper Austrian News reports that Felt is also slated for sale, further consolidating the company’s exit from the bicycle market.
KTM bicycles Remain Unaffected
It’s important to note that this decision does not impact KTM Bahrrad GmbH, the entity responsible for KTM bicycles. The company has been independent of KTM AG since 1992 and remains “financially healthy,” according to a statement made in response to a PULS 24 inquiry last autumn. Consumers can continue to purchase KTM bicycles without hesitation, as the brand remains unaffected by the restructuring.
