KSV Hessen Kassel has annoyed the next candidate for promotion. A week after the Derb victory in Offenbach, the Löwen tie a point from SSV Ulm at 0-0 thanks to a strong defensive performance.

Captain Frederic Brill is suspended, as is Jascha Döringer. In addition to the long-term injuries, Aram Kahraman also has to pass. Coach Tobias Damm is therefore making some changes. Alexander Mißbach moves to the right in the system with three central defenders, while Maurice Springfeld moves into midfield alongside Tim Dierßen. In the 30th minute Ingmar Merle was eliminated with a calf injury and was replaced by Serkan Durna on the left.

Ulm, the candidate for promotion, is of course the game-determining team. The lions are usually pushed deep into their own half. A banner hangs behind them in the north curve. The thank you for the derby victory in Offenbach. But again there is no support from the fans. It’s a shame for the hosts, who could use support in Ulmer Druck. However, the KSV is very stable until the break, almost always gets a clearing leg, a clearing head on the ball, even when things get tricky. Ulm only has one really clear chance – in the 26th minute, when the lions build up the lose ball Nicolas wahling then comes free to the end, but shoots just wide.

And the KSV? Rarely comes dangerously on the offensive, but has at least two dangerous scenes until the break. In the seventh minute, Nael Najjar starts one of his dangerous runs down the right wing, moves into the penalty area and then puts the ball back – but the shot attempts by Moritz Flotho and Daniele Vesco are blocked. It is then also Vesco who deducts in the 21st at the edge of the penalty area. The ball just misses the left post.

After the change, however, it is surprisingly the hosts who first take control of the game. Which can now be found more on offense. Who play out corners. And who just missed the lead in the 57th minute. Nils Stendera takes a shot from the left corner of the penalty area, the shot is deflected by Ulm’s defender Johannes Reichert – but the ball just misses the goal.

Only then does Ulm take control again. It’s certainly not a particularly handsome game. But how the lions manage to keep the title contenders in check defensively deserves a lot of respect. It actually lasts until the 72nd minute before it becomes dangerous again in the Kassel penalty area. Jannik Rochelt puts on the sprint, approaches Maximilian Zunker – but then Missbach is there, puts his foot in between and prevented the conclusion. Very strong!

Ulm’s pressure increases in the closing stages. Sure, in the fight for the top spots, the sparrows need a threesome. After a corner, Rochelt gets the ball freely, but shoots far over it. The 85th minute was already running. The hosts do not allow more. The KSV has annoyed the next candidate for promotion.
