On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the TSV Abensberg judo department, the record champions hosted the men’s Bundesliga final again after a nine-year break. In front of 700 spectators, KSV Esslingen beat hosts and defending champions TSV Abensberg 8:6 after an exciting and even final encounter.
For KSV Esslingen it is the first German championship title after five runner-up titles.
In the first round of a thrilling final battle, the score was 2:2 thanks to victories by Sven Heinle and Tato Grigalashvili for Esslingen and Patrick Weisser and Temur Nozadze for Abensberg. Jano Rübo and Kevin Abeltshauser had the longest encounter of the day. After eight minutes of fighting, Rübo won in extra time and gave Esslingen a 3-2 lead. Michael Korrel increased the score to 4:2 and Luka Maisuradze reduced the score to 3:4.
After the half-time break, Lukas Klemm, Schamil Dzavbatyrov, Jano Rübo and Michael Korrel scored for Esslingen. Tato Grigalashvili, Benjamin Howard and Luka Maisuradze took the points on Abensberg’s side in a highly dramatic final battle.
In the first semi-final, KSV Esslingen had prevailed with a clear 12-2 win against KSC Asahi Spremberg. TSV Abensberg won 9:5 against last year’s final opponent, the Hamburg judo team.
