KSC Hösbach leads the table in the upper house for the first time

Because KSV Köllerbach, who had previously been tied on points, was without a fight and the Vikings easily mastered their task at KSV Witten, they catapulted themselves into first place with their 23:4 win. A week before the derby rematch against Kleinostheim, two newcomers made their debut at the start of the second half of the season.

This means Nikolai Mohammadi and Kubilay Cakici. Mohammadi wrestles internationally for Denmark and was used in the 61-kg class, which is wrestled in the Greco-Roman style in the return series. Mohammadi had no major problems with Mika Labes, a talented young man from Witten, but was unable to score him. Cakici lost on points to his German opponent Gregor Eigenbrodt in the 80-kilo freestyle limit, which will be enforced throughout the season following the weight class reform. “Mohammadi last wrestled in the Bundesliga when he was 17, Kubilay is still lacking in training,” said Hösbach sports director Tobias Heil, describing the first appearances.

Cakici’s defeat was one of only two that the Lower Franconians suffered in the ten duels. Niklas Dorn also narrowly lost points after the full six minutes because he couldn’t get through to Andrej Perpelita offensively. Five of the seven German wrestlers from Hösbach won victories against the hosts, who competed with eight Germans, who relied on six home-grown players and were likely to finish last in this formation.

Tim Müller, Johannes Deml and Robin Ferdinand hardly had any trouble. Things were tighter for Erik Löser and Anton Vieweg. Vieweg, meanwhile, delivered again in the Bundesliga just a few days after finishing fifth at the U23 World Cup. The newly crowned U23 vice world champion Shant Khachatryan (Armenia) also impressed.

After the relaxed trip to North Rhine-Westphalia, Tobias Heil was at peace with his team: “We are undefeated after six fights,” he pointed out. It should stay that way against SC Kleinostheim – as with the 13:11 in the first leg. However, the Hösbachers are likely to change their lineup in several positions.
