Air Force Chief of Staff (KSAU) Marshal TNI Fadjar Prasetyo apologized for the actions of one of the elements TNI AU which stepping on people’s heads in Merauke, Papua. Fadjar said it was a member’s fault.
“This happened solely because of the mistake of our members and there was no intention whatsoever, especially in the form of an official order,” said Fadjar through a video uploaded to the Twitter account @_TNIAU as seen detik.com, Wednesday (28/7/2021).
Fadjar said his party would evaluate its members. He promised to take strict action against the trespassers.
“I, as the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, would like to express my deepest apologies to all our brothers and sisters in Papua, especially the people in Merauke, especially to the victims and their families,” said Fadjar
The Beginning of the Air Force Personnel Stepping on Residents’ Heads
Head of the Indonesian Air Force Information Service (Kadispenau) Marsma TNI Indan Gilang Buldansyah said the incident occurred at a food stall in Merauke on Monday (26/7/2021). At that time, there was a commotion between a resident who was allegedly drunk and the owner of the food stall.
“The incident started with a commotion from a resident who was suspected of being drunk with the shop owner,” said Indan Gilang in his statement.
Indan said that was when POM AU officers came to the location and tried to break up the drunken residents with the shop owner. It was during the process of detaining the drunken residents that the act of stepping on the head was carried out by one of the Indonesian Air Force personnel.
“Involving two POM AU members who intend to intervene, are now in the handling of Merauke Air Force officers,” he said.
