There was a moment this season when it was not known whether he would advance to the play-offs, and now he can celebrate a bronze medal! Although KS Apator Toruń lost the rematch with Włókniarz (44:46), it won the two-legged match and caused sadness in Częstochowa.

Both teams had high hopes of winning the bronze medal, which – regardless of their aspirations – is always a success. Guests from Toruń, because they made a good advance before the second leg. The hosts from Częstochowa believed that they would reverse the course of the competition and, at the end of this nervous, tearful and uneven season, they would bring joy to themselves and to the fans, whom they often disappointed, also at home.

However, the beginning of the match was not promising for Włókniarz. Although the juniors won 5:1, the seniors lost their races, mainly due to poor starts. Even the gold and silver medalists of the Individual European Championships from Pardubice on Friday, who opened Sunday’s competition. Wiktor Lampart surprised them, and Robert Lambert even caused bloodshed. Then Patryk Dudek, Emil Sajfutdinow and Paweł Przedpełski did not lose any points.

The second series often sheds new light on what has been happening on the track so far. That’s why KS Apator had to be careful because the locals finally had to react. And they reacted, although not all of them did. Jakub Miśkowiak and Leon Madsen brought the white-green team back into the lead (16:14), but the battered Kacper Woryna was completely disappointed, recording two zeros in the first phase of the match. Therefore, Lambert and Dudek won the sixth race twice and their team was once again in the lead.

The Lions could count on Mikkel Michelsen to a greater extent than in the previous few matches. In the seventh heat, he stopped the series of seventeen without an individual triumph in the PGE Ekstraliga, defeating Sajfutdinov. Then he followed suit, triumphing together with Maksym Drabik, unquestionably 5:1 in the ninth set. Earlier, Woryna had slightly woken up, but he still couldn’t find a way to defeat the Leopard.

Time was running out for the team led by coach Lech Kędziora even faster, if you look at the events of the race that ended the third series. Sajfutdinow tamed Madsen on the first lap, and Krzysztof Lewandowski probably surprised even himself by carrying Miśkowiak, who had no idea how to pass him, for the full distance. The Angels drew 30:30 and were getting closer to the desired medal.

The conclusion that came to mind five races before the end of the race was that the starting moment was the key to success. As the Częstochowa oval is used to having a lot going on, this time it was different. And from the very beginning, the Toruń team felt good under the tape. Moreover, compared to the meeting in the regular round, this time coach Jan Ząbik’s players avoided mistakes on the route.

In fact, they were even able to take advantage of their rivals’ rather chimerical driving and overtake them. This was achieved by Sajfutdinow and Lambert, who rode much better than in the semi-final in Wrocław. The unsung hero of the bronze medal match was Lampart. In the thirteenth run, he drove around Drabik and Woryna on the first lap, and then defended himself against attacks by both of them. As Sajfutdinow took the “three” position, after this race it was already clear that the medal was going to Copernicus Castle!

Sad Włókniarz fans started leaving the stands of the stadium at Olsztyńska Street even before the nominated races. Their players did not want to lose not only the medal, but also the match itself. Drabik and Miśkowiak won twice in the penultimate heat, leading to a draw 42:42. In the decisive match, Lambert separated the Danish hosts and they won the whole match. However, KS Apator and its 77-year-old trainer are in a better mood. The legendary Jan Ząbik took over the team in a difficult situation, and in the end led it to the first Polish Team Championship medal in seven years.
