Max Kruse and Union Berlin – apparently that didn’t really fit together in the past first half of the season. The 33-year-old, who now plays for VfL Wolfsburg, made that clear when he appeared in the ‘Aktuelles Sportstudio’ on Saturday evening yesterday.

“I actually like to go by feel – and I really had a very intense and great time at Union”Kruse clarified. “But personally, the second year didn’t go as well as the first, even if it went very well in terms of sport.”
Sporting & human reasons
And further: “I don’t want to go into too much detail now or open a barrel where none needs to be opened. But I wasn’t as satisfied as I was in the first year.” There were both sporting and human reasons.
“As an athlete”Kruse explained, “If you want to be on the pitch from the first to the last minute, then of course I’m also ambitious. And I didn’t understand some things the way others saw it.” What is meant is primarily Union coach Urs Fischer.
“Different Views of Things”
“Then I’m one too”according to the opinionated offensive man, “who then goes into confrontation. But it’s not like the relationship was broken or completely bad. […] There was no bad blood and I think you can still look each other in the eye. But we had one or the other different view of things.”
The rift between coach and player was obviously beyond repair. Kruse finally returned to Wolfsburg in January and paid a lot for his signature. According to ‘Bild’ information, the ex-national player receives 3.8 million euros per season – around twice as much as before in Berlin.
