Kruger Rock Fire in Colorado: 60% Contained After Burning Nearly 200 Acres in Less Than One Week


The fire only caused the issuance of some evacuation orders on Tuesday that were already lifted this Friday.

Authorities in Larimer County, northern Colorado, reported that the Kruger Rock Fire is now 60% contained after consuming nearly 200 acres since it caught fire this week.. Firefighters also indicated that although strong winds are expected in the state in the coming days, the fire is not expected to increase in size, according to The Denver Channel.

Up to now, the only death related to the fire was that of pilot Marc Thor Olson, who crashed into the forest trying to put out the flames of the fire.

According to the United States Forest Service (USFS), the fire has consumed 147 acres as of this Friday afternoon. What’s more, The government entity indicated that they are currently mapping the terrain to know exactly what the extent of the fire is north of the Colorado.

The forest service indicated that during the night of Thursday the fire slowed down significantly, in addition, it is expected to continue in that trend during the weekend despite strong winds in the region, that usually further fuel wildfires under certain conditions.

Local firefighters will take advantage of the slowdown of the fire to improve their containment lines in the north and east of the fire, which are the areas that had been most aggressive. In addition, an aircraft will help the authorities to more effectively monitor the fire, at the same time that it will support the cleaning and maintenance of the forest.

Equally, there are other planes in reserve in case the fire takes a lot of force this weekend.

The Kruger Rock fire was born Tuesday morning after powerful winds caused a tree to fall over a power line, which then started the fire. By noon on Tuesday, evacuation alerts were issued from Meadowdale Lane, Boulder, Little Valley Drive, Fish Creek Road, they were raised this Friday morning.

So far, no injuries or major damage have been reported. No major road closures either.
