As is known, Croci the crocodile from the Botunets district of the capital, inhabited mainly by Roma, replaced his uncomfortable hole-hole with the capital’s zoo. The saga surrounding his stay in a mud pit between blocks of flats and houses in the capital has shocked the whole country and split public opinion – for or against the removal of the reptile from his home.
After a series of dramatic negotiations between his owner Viktor Mihailov, who introduced himself as a circus actor, and the officials of the RIOSV, Kroki was caught and taken to the zoo, where he is under special care and will not pose a danger to people.
According to the owner Viktor Mihailov, the reptile lived in a pool, not in a hole. It was in his mother’s name. It enjoyed attention and care. Victor did his best to make the reptile feel like it was in the Nile River and not feel sad for its fellow Africans. The man from Botunets also had other animals that he raised with great love and attention.
Those familiar with the trade of various animals recall that this is an expensive pleasure, bearing in mind that the main food is live chickens, which the crocodile must kill himself in order not to lose its feeding reflexes. In addition to chickens, crocodiles eat fish, horns, shells, all kinds of bones, mammals and ungulates. They often built themselves a cover of sticks to make the birds duck down to be caught and eaten.
Usually, these reptiles arrive from Egypt via Turkey with arranged documents and a strong crack at the customs, people in the know reveal. Crocodiles have long been banned from circus training, as have almost all other animals.
Nile crocodiles were traded at a price of 8,000 to 15,000 euros, veterinarians were paid separately. They were registered in the name of other persons, not their real owners. What exactly is Crocky’s story?! Whether it really arrives from Burgas and whether it was supposed to be resold somewhere in Western Europe remains to be seen. In our country there are no official kennels and farms for crocodiles.
The fashion for private zoos died out 20 years ago, along with the riotous times and the forced and unprovoked brawls, but every rule has its exceptions. Few people know that Ivo Karamanski leads the first private crocodile in Bulgaria. The godfather of the mafia is obsessed with building his own park with exotic animals and feathers in the capital’s Boyana district, where he has a house. The oarsman loved animals, fell for all kinds of crazy ideas and was convinced that a crocodile from the Nile would bring unheard of exoticism to his yard. In addition, he could scare the “naughty” with it – a thought that greatly tickled his fantasies.
It took 3-4 months to arrange the crocodile and transport it to our country, old associates of Karamanski remember. For the purchase, he splashed out 4,000 dollars – a huge amount for those years, he separately made a “big deal” to various customs officials, to whom he sent financial thanks in advance.
When the reptile arrived, Karamanski threw a commemorative party. The guests ate, drank and made merry for three days. They were rattling on the ceiling, and the crocodile could not find a place, because this type of animal loves peace and quiet. The care of the amphibian was entrusted to a veterinarian from the metropolitan zoo, naturally, for a modest fee.
After the shooting of Karamanski, his zoo began to fall apart. A part of the animals were sold, others “evaporated”. What exactly happened to the crocodile, history is silent.
In those days, it was considered prestigious to have a zoo with exotic animals to entertain guests. In addition to Krastnik, there were animal gardens for the alleged drug lord Josko Slivenski, his late colleague Meto Ilienski, the partner of Zlatko Baretata – Kutsi Maimunata, and others. In the once cult establishment “Kosharite”, another criminal authority regularly walked among the tables his beloved little jaguar on a leash, and the visitors pretended not to be afraid, writes Weekend.
