It was only the fourth time in history that a woman dominated the traditional poll. Kristýna Zemanová followed up Miculyčová’s triumph last year. “It is a huge honor for me and I am very happy. The trophy for the King of Cycling is such a beautiful bonus to the year of my life, which the last one certainly was for me,” said the talented cyclocrosser.
Last season, she won bronze at the World Championships in Hoogerheide and subsequently at the European Championships in Pontchateau, both in the under-23 category. Moreover, in the elite category, she regularly competed in the top ten of the World Cup. “I proved to myself that I can compete with the best and keep improving. It was a really breakthrough season and it is obvious that the opponents are already well aware that I am there next to them,” said Zemanová.
On Sunday in Tábor, she won her third domestic title in the elite category in a row. On the same track, he will also be the main Czech medal hope during the first weekend of February at the World Championships, where he will again compete in the under-23 category. “I don’t allow pressure, it’s more journalists who do it. I’m looking forward to the championship and I want to give 100% performance. Hopefully the atmosphere will help me and it will be a nice day,” smiled the cyclocross rider of the Brilon Racing Team from Mladá Boleslav.
The newly 30-year-old Stošek also achieved the greatest success in his career when he won silver in the marathon race at the World Championships in Scotland. Eighteen-year-old Miculyčová defended the title of European champion in freestyle BMX.
During the gala evening in the Great Hall of the Trade Fair Palace in Prague, the winners in the individual disciplines were also announced. For the third year in a row, the championship among the cyclocross riders belongs to Zemanová, the best mountain bike rider is Stošek, and Miculyčová dominated the bicross.
“It’s very nice. We all meet across disciplines, we’re in dresses, it’s so classy. Actually, it’s a reward that we see each other other than in jerseys. It’s a diversion that I enjoy every time,” noted Zemanová.
Successful junior Kryštof Král was the best on the road, Veronika Jaborníková is the queen among track runners. Radek Adam and Tomáš Horák dominated the poll among indoor cyclists. The best para cyclist is Pavlína Vejvodová. Adam Bittman and junior Adéla Marková, representatives in track cycling, were declared the best junior. Former successful track cyclist Iva Zajíčková was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
The survey has been held since 1965. Cyclists then declared their king as the first in our country, other sports were added later. The historically most successful cyclists are the brothers Jan and Jindřich Pospíšil, who won the poll eight times thanks to their success in cycling.
