TRONDHEIM/STOCKHOLM. Linn Svahn was on her way to her first World Cup victory in three years.
But Kristine Stavå’s Skistad sprinted down the Swedes after great drama at home.
– We have to go home and train before the WC, says Svahn.
There was a dramatic battle for the sprint victory in Trondheim. Linn Svahn and Emma Ribom were the first to enter the race, but the Norwegian star Kristine Stavås Skistad made a huge sprint and won before Svahn.
– It was nice to knock the Swedes down from first place. It doesn’t get any better than that, says the Norwegian.
”Lite less”
Svahn, who was third in Östersund last weekend, has not won a World Cup victory since January 31, 2021 and was both pleased and disappointed.
– I still think I give myself good conditions, but I’m not good enough in the race, says Svahn and continues:
– I hate being second, but I think I’m getting better and better every weekend. When I saw the finish line I thought “I’m not letting this go now, not a chance”. But she is amazingly good on the run. We have to go home and train before the WC.
Ribom has won the opening two sprint events in the World Cup, but had to settle for third place on the World Cup tracks in Trondheim.
– It’s tight all the way in. Me and Linn had a good talk before and wanted to go for it on the last hill. I think we are doing well, but there are three of us left and there is a Norwegian girl who comes and does really well. Hats off, she says and continues:
– I’m a little worried that I’m letting go (of the riot). I think both Linn and I feel “the phase, it would have been fun with a Swedish victory today”.
