Kristīne Opolais will perform at the festival “Rīga Jūrmala” instead of Baritone Brina Tervel / Article

The organizers of the music festival “Riga Jurmala” have announced that due to health reasons and on the recommendation of doctors, bass baritone Brins Tervels has canceled the performance scheduled for August 29. Instead, festival visitors will be able to listen to the performance of Latvian opera star and world-famous soprano Kristīne Opolais together with pianist Agnes Egliņš on August 29 at 19.00 in Dzintari Concert Hall.

“Some of the biggest opportunities in my life have arisen as a result of unexpected events – from the last minute of the live broadcast of the Metropolitan Opera in 2014 to this unexpected meeting with my beloved listeners in Latvia again,” says Kristīne Opolais. “Brin Tervel, who is also a good friend of mine, asked me to replace him at the planned Sunday night concert. Although I would have liked to have listened to his concert with other visitors to the festival, in these circumstances I will perform with joy and great honor in place of my dear colleague.

“Although we are really sorry that Brin has to cancel the performance, health is undeniably the main priority,” says Martins Engstrēms, the artistic director of the festival “Rīga Jūrmala”. “On behalf of the whole team, we wish the artist a speedy recovery and look forward to his participation in the coming seasons of the festival. I am very grateful to Kristīne Opolais, who agreed to replace Brina Tervel in such a short time and was only in Latvia due to a happy coincidence. Instead of relaxing after three successful Tuscany performances in Puccini with world-famous tenor Jonas Kaufman as Kavaradosi, we will all be able to enjoy Kristine’s performance on Sunday night in Dzintari. “

Kristine Opolais will perform a wide program at the concert, inspired by her interpreted roles in opera around the world, as well as works that are of special importance in her life, including Puccini, Verdi, Chile, Dvorak and Tchaikovsky. This is the first performance of the artist in Latvia since 2018.

Visitors to the festival, who had planned to go to Brin Tervel’s concert, will be able to save and use the same tickets by going to the concert of Kristīne Opolais and pianist Agnese Egliņa on August 29 at 19.00 in Dzintari Concert Hall, informs the festival organizers.
