Kristina Vogel doesn’t want a career in para-sport | Free press

Berlin (dpa) – The former track cycling world champion Kristina Vogel, paraplegic after an accident, is not aiming for a comeback in para-sport.

“Active competitive sport is out of the question for me because then I would be in the limelight again, and even more so than before,” writes the 30-year-old Olympic champion in her book “Immer noch ich. Just different ”, from which“ Bild am Sonntag ”cited in advance. And further: “If Kristina Vogel came back, she would have to win.”

Kristina Vogel suffered a training accident on the cycling track in Cottbus in the summer of 2018, in which, among other things, she sustained a serious spinal injury. Since then, many people have tried to persuade them to start a new career in para-sport, Vogel told the “Bild am Sonntag”. She doesn’t want that for two reasons: On the one hand, it feels good the way it is. And secondly: “We have so many great people in para-sport. Why should I steal the stage from them? ” Looking at Paralympics winner Niko Kappel (shot put) and Paralympics runner-up Denise Schindler (cycling), Vogel added: “Better five cameras on Niko Kappel and Denise Schindler than 20 on me.”
