Kristiina Komulainen knows when many people’s intelligence decreases – A catchy message with a joke for explainers – 2024-02-24 17:30:24

In police work, young people rarely recognize Kristiina Komulainen.

Kristiina Komulainen is a woman of many roles. He works full-time as a senior constable at the Pasila Police Department in Helsinki, completes a master’s degree at the University of Jyväskylä and runs his own company. As an entrepreneur, Komulainen trains interaction skills, conflict resolution, especially for company employees, and mediates disputes in work communities.

The business of a presenter also falls under the Entrepreneurs’ Act. Komunainen hosts Anatomy of a crime series, the new season of which starts on 22.2.

Many irons in the fire seems meaningful to Komulainen.

– Yesterday I spent the whole day studying for my degree, and on the weekend I’m working as a police officer in Pasila until late at night. I am also on the board and management team of the Finnish Motorcycle Association. I like to do things on top of each other, but you have to live so that life is here all the time, Komulainen says.

He doesn’t like putting his dreams on hold, and after the interview, it’s his beloved hobby of motocross. Komulainen started it in his thirties 13 years ago.

– I come from a motorsport family. I’ve been a petrolhead since I was a kid. We drove karting on land and I wanted to try motocross even then.

However, I only started riding enduro when I was an adult, after extreme sports.

– I like speed and I have been enthusiastic about extreme sports. I wouldn’t go downhill skating again, he says now that he’s 45.

Part of identity

In motocross, Komulai is also especially attracted by the sense of community and the spirit of teamwork.

– We do the tracks together with other enthusiasts, and working together is central to the sport. We have a team of over ten people, and being part of a motocross team is part of my identity. It’s a shame that in today’s society we are largely strangers to each other, even if we live in the same house.

A resident of Komu goes enduro once a week. Otherwise, he does lighter workouts.

– Driving is maximum training. I then have an average heart rate of 170-180 and my normal workout lasts from an hour to an hour and a half. It has a bike weighing more than a hundred kilos between its legs and the sport is really difficult, Komulainen admits.

Swinging and balancing on a big bike also hurts and happens.

– Quite a few people have been on the operating table from the track. I’ve been pretty lucky and haven’t had surgeries, for example. I’ve had some concussions from falls.

According to Komulainen, the sport requires unwavering concentration.

– If you go to the track as a beginner with a hole in your head, it will happen. However, you can have quite a lot of influence on the risks. If it’s a bad day, I slow down. I never ride the last lap, because it’s the last lap that’s when things start happening.

Familiar from TV?

Komulainen initially became known to many as a radio and TV presenter, but he may not be recognized anymore. When he meets young people in his everyday work, they rarely recognize Komulainen.

– Young people don’t know who this aunty person is.

In Komulainen’s opinion, conflict skills are also very useful in his own life. As an expert on the subject, Komulainen knows at which point in the conflict his own mind is going, when emotions start to heat up.

– The same things are actually repeated in all conflicts and disputes. Your own emotional skills are key in these situations.

Pearl dispute

When Komulainen had an argument with his friend via Whatsapp messages last summer, it was easier to understand at which point on the conflict curve both of them felt.

– It was quite an argument and you could see from the messages that one was already here and the other responded more slowly, Komulainen gestures with his hands.

The friends realized that before reconciliation, the dust must settle. The person from Komu would have been ready to make an agreement after a day, but the friend was ready to talk after three days.

– The rule of thumb is that it takes three days before people are able to settle a dispute, but this varies a lot. You should let the dust settle, and you shouldn’t force, for example, children to settle disputes too quickly.

In Komulainen’s opinion, Whatsapp is often a bad channel for arguing and things should be resolved face-to-face, but it is not suitable for everyone.

– Some find it easier to express themselves in text form.

Many workplaces smoke

According to Komulainen, similar conflicts can be seen in workplaces, relationships and other human relationships.

– There are smoldering conflicts in many organizations. People are bad at bringing things up and sweep a lot under the rug. However, the problems do not disappear anywhere. When an imbalance exists, conflict makes it visible.

According to Komulainen, the situations combine two things.

– People make assumptions about things and events, and they are driven by fear. A fearful person’s IQ decreases and their behavior changes.

Many people comment on things on social media these days, and for example social media comments received by celebrities are regularly featured in Iltalehti’s stories.

– Commenting on social media shows that people comment on things other than objects, and do not realize that it is another person. Fear drives commenting and individuals a lot. When emotion takes, intelligence decreases. It would be good to follow the old folk’s “count to ten” instruction before commenting on anything.

In Komulainen’s opinion, it is also worth choosing your battles, and not going with everything.

– It can be quite consuming, because there is a lot of beer in the world.

The Komulainen has a catchy message also for those who explain that their own comment was just a joke.

– Rude behavior is rude behavior, and you can’t joke about it, he says.
