The national film award “Lielais Kristaps” was won as the best feature film of the year by the film “Blow of Souls”, produced by Inga Praņevska and Dzintars Dreibergs.
Dreibergs also won the title of the best feature film director for his work on the film “Blow of Souls”.
In addition, Gatis Belogrudovs was honored for his performance in this film, receiving an award for the best editing. Lolita Ritmanis also received an award for her work in this film in the “Best Music” category, Dzintra Bijubena in the “Best Make-up Artist’s Work” category, and Valdis Celmiņš was awarded for the best cinematography work “Lielais Kristaps”.
“Dvēseļu putenis” also received the award of the audience of the public media portal “Lsm.lv” for the best performance of the year in cinema.
Meanwhile, Dāvis Suharevskis received the prize for the best actor in the lead role for his portrayal in the film “City by the River”, and Brigita Cmuntova for the best acting role in the background.
“The Great Kristaps” was awarded to the cinematographer and pedagogue, honorary professor of the Latvian Academy of Culture Kalvis Zalcmanis for his lifetime contribution to film art.
The film “Wearer” by producers Ivars Zviedra and Marta Bite was recognized as the best full-length documentary film. Zviedris and Haralds Ozols also received “The Great Kristaps” in the category “The Best Cameraman’s Work in a Documentary” for their work in this film.
The title of the best documentary short film was earned by the film “The First Bridge”, directed by Laila Pakalniņa.
At the same time, Liene Linde and Armands Začs received the award as the best documentary filmmakers for the film “Presence”.
In the category “Best Debut Film”, the film “Change” with director Reini Kalvins and producer Gints Grubis has received the award.
The film “Two Stripes” won the award in the category “Best Student Film”. Its director is Alise Zariņa.
The title of the best animated film was won by the animated documentary “My Favorite War” directed by Ilze Burkovska-Jakobsen. Burkovsky-Jakobsen also received “Kristaps the Great” for the best animated film directing for this film.
Meanwhile, Kārlis Vītols received the “Great Kristaps” for the best work of an animation artist for his performance in the film “Swan Virgin”.
Viesturs Kairišs was recognized as the best screenwriter for the screenplay for the film “City by the River”. Ludwig Bohadlo and Robert Slezac also received work in the film “City by the River” in the category “Best Sound Direction”.
Kate was praised as the best costume designer for her performance in “What Silent Gerda Knows”. Jurģis Krāsons received the award for his work on this film in the category “Best Artist’s Work”.
The “Big Kristaps” award is organized by the Latvian Cinematographers’ Union in cooperation with the National Culture Center and the Ministry of Culture.
The award was founded in 1977, but since 2014 it has been presented again every year.
Last year, the award for best feature film was won by director Juris Kursieš’s film “Oleg”.
