Less than a month after the arrival of Kristaps Porzingis in Boston, as part of an exchange which notably sent Marcus Smart to Memphis, the ex-Washington Wizards player signed a new contract with the Massachusetts franchise. The Latvian, who had activated the option in his contract for the 2023-2024 season, is now tied to the Celtics until 2026 according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. While his salary will be $36m (€32.30m) this year, the two additional seasons are valued at $60m (€53.80m) in total.
Boston is Porzingis’ (27) fourth team after the New York Knicks (who drafted him fourth in 2015), the Dallas Mavericks and the Washington Wizards. During his only season in the federal capital, the interior of 2.21 m recorded his best statistics with 23.7 points on average at 49.8% shooting success. He was also shooting 8.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.5 blocks per game. After having worn number 6 all his NBA career, Porzingis will go to number 8 with Boston since his now ex-number was that of Bill Russell (11 NBA titles), who has, of course, been retired for a long time.
