The transition to artificial intelligence will resemble the industrial revolution in scope and effect it will have on the labor market – some jobs will disappear, others will be transformed into new ones, others will be created. This is what the managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, said before the World Government Meeting, which began today in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, BTA reported.
The question, according to Georgieva, is whether we are ready for this transition. According to her, some countries are prepared, but the majority in general are not, and these are mostly developing countries, while more developed economies are in better positions.
The IMF monitors four factors in this process – digital infrastructure, worker skills and labor market mobility, innovation – how much countries are willing to invest in research and development, and regulations and ethics, the head of the Fund pointed out.
The two biggest risks regarding AI are uneven development and the danger that it will lead to new inequalities, along with the risk of “creating a universe of distorted ideas”.
