Bulgaria is better than many other countries. This was stated by the managing director of the International Monetary Fund Kristalina Georgieva in an interview with BNT. But he immediately issued a very serious warning to our country. In the current situation, it is time for very careful spending, which is aimed at the poorest, said Georgieva.
Increasingly, the shocks experienced by individual countries are not the result of mismanagement in the country, but the result of external factors. She highlighted the dependence of our country on two lines – energy, and that society can quickly divide in this geopolitical climate. Bulgaria must not allow this disunity, Georgieva said, adding: “We created our crisis in the 1990s. And we corrected it with the help of the International Monetary Fund. With the right macroeconomic policy, the problems are solved.”
We cannot solve the pandemic only with the right macroeconomic policy, the same shock is the war. It has much stronger geopolitical tensions, which makes it more difficult to unite the world.
It will hit hardest on countries that have not recovered from the effects of the pandemic and are major importers of energy and food and close to Ukraine and Russia. We are energy dependent, the right policy is to get rid of this dependence, said Kristalina Georgieva.
