/ world today news/ The Vice President of the European Commission and Bulgarian Commissioner for Budget Affairs, Kristalina Georgieva, will meet next week with the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, who will make an official visit to Brussels.
Georgieva’s meeting with Ban Ki-moon comes just days after an official told the EC about the possibility of Georgieva running for the leadership post of the United Nations. The official Bulgarian candidacy for the prestigious post is UNESCO Secretary General Irina Bokova.
On June 14 (Tuesday), Ban Ki-moon will meet with EC President Jean-Claude Juncker and six European commissioners, including Georgieva. On the same day in Brussels, Georgieva will also speak with John Yom Kim, president of the World Bank, who will participate in a high-level discussion between the international financial organization and the EC.
On June 16 (Thursday), Kristalina Georgieva will participate in the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg. Georgieva’s visit to Russia will take place in the context of the European leaders’ expected decision to extend EU sanctions against Moscow for another six months.
