Mikkeliäinen Krista couldn’t believe his eyes on Wednesday when he saw department store Kärkkäinen’s offer for hiking jackets.

On Wednesday morning, the online store showed that the price of Anar Muorra hiking jackets had dropped from 189 euros to 1.89 euros. The discount thus appeared to be 99 percent.

Krista smelled a burnt cart because the price seemed too good to be true.

– Yes, the thought came to mind that this is some kind of marketing gimmick, he says.

The offer still had to be taken. Krista put 12 jackets in the online shopping cart, so the total price of the jackets was 22.68 euros. The payment went through.

“Frustration”

Soon, however, a message arrived in Krista’s email stating that the product had been sold at an incorrect price due to a system error.

The message said with apologies that the price of the products would be refunded to him.

– Of course, it was a bit of a disappointment, although I guessed that someone like that [erehdys] it had to be there, Krista commented.

However, he was more disappointed that he didn’t get any compensation other than the money back. According to the quick answer, they are not obliged to “compensate for what happened in a way other than returning the money”.

Iltalehti has seen the exchange of messages between Krista and Kärkkäinen’s customer service, as well as the receipts for what happened.

– Bad customer service. I would have liked a discount code or some other small refund, Krista says.

He can’t say if he plans to do business at the department store again.

The website of the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority states that the seller is not obliged to sell the product at the price offered on the website, if the consumer should have understood that the price was clearly incorrect.

– This is the case, for example, if the difference between the declared price and the actual price is considerably large or the wrong price can be considered exceptionally low compared to the general price level, says the KKV website.
