Kreuzkirche makes CINEMA: Yuli – Celler Presse

On Thursday, August 22nd, at 8 p.m. there will be another cinema screening in the parish hall of the Kreuzkirche, Windmühlenstraße 45. The film “Yuli” will be shown.

Content: The true story of the ballet dancer Carlos Acosta, who came from poverty in Havana and was the first non-white dancer to play a Romeo, is told. His father, the son of a slave and now a truck driver, raised him strictly. He forced Yuli, as he called him, to attend the state ballet school. The young ballet dancer received a scholarship. As “Yuli” he traveled the stages of the world and at the age of 25 joined the Royal Ballet in London. He delighted the audience. Only after many years of homesickness did Acosta (Carlos Acosta himself) return to Cuba.

criticism: Ballet films are not to everyone’s taste. But YULI is different. Because Icíar Bollaín’s film is much, much more than a ballet film. YULI is a deep bow to an unusual ballet star, an extraordinary film about passion, Cuba and ballet. FSK: 6 years,

Duration: 110 minutes. You can bring snacks and drinks. Pastor Carola Beuermann is looking forward to seeing you and to this evening!
