Kremlin: Putin and Russia are the main targets of the Panama Papers – 2024-08-10 17:29:21

/ world today news/ Russia and its head of state Vladimir Putin are the main targets of the Panama Papers revelations. This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

“Putin, Russia, our country, our stability and the upcoming elections are the main goal, mostly to destabilize the situation,” he said.

However, the spokesman was adamant that work in this direction was “ineffective” and unlikely to have a negative impact due to its low quality. He also pointed out that there is nothing new and specific against the Russian head of state in these revelations, and according to him the investigative journalists who worked on the investigation were helped by former personnel of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

In the published information, there is “nothing concrete, nothing new, details are missing, everything else consists of arguments and speculations,” said Peskov.

According to the Kremlin spokesman, the authors of the investigation also fabricated and falsified information about Putin’s entourage. For this reason, the president’s administration sees no need to respond to such publications.

Peskov also stated that Putin has many friends in the world and in Russia, including the musician Sergei Roldugin mentioned in the investigation. His name surfaced in the investigation, according to which he made millions from questionable transactions. “Both Roldugin and many other people from various spheres and occupations continue to remain Putin’s friends,” he pointed out.

The Kremlin also explains this kind of publications against the head of state with the high levels of “Putinophobia”, Peskov also pointed out. He also linked the release of such information to the need to downplay the positives of Russia’s successes in Syria. “You remember the situation with Palmyra – the strategic reversal of the situation in Syria with the support of Russia is an obvious success. He featured little in the news (in the foreign press – note TASS), there is a certain tendency to be silenced,” added Peskov.

On Sunday, the Washington-based International Consortium for Investigative Journalism released 11.5 million documents detailing the offshore accounts of a number of current and former leaders. The publications are based on leaked information of the Panamanian company “Mossac Fonseca”, which provides legal assistance in the registration of companies in offshore areas.

The leaked documents contain information and material on former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, Syrian President Bashar Assad, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and many others.

During his press conference, Peskov also indicated that the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh was causing serious concern in the Kremlin, with Russia calling on Armenia and Azerbaijan to return to a ceasefire regime. “You know that vigorous efforts are being made, both along the line of Russia-Eravan-Baku, and along the line of the relevant international organizations,” he pointed out. /AFP and TASS
