In the German Ice Hockey League, Mannheim and Bremerhaven have defended their leaders in the South and North. The season for Krefeld continues sadly. The penguins are still not competitive.
Nuremberg / Krefeld / Cologne (dpa) – The Krefeld Penguins made their worst start to the season in the German Ice Hockey League perfectly.
On Sunday, the knocked-down bottom of the table in the northern group proved to be once more uncompetitive in a 2: 5 (1: 3, 0: 1, 1: 1) against Eisbären Berlin. “All the games are a great challenge for us,” complained striker Brett Olson, scorer for 2: 5 (55th) at MagentaSport and complained about significant tactical deficiencies.
The worst team in the league is still without a point even after eight games. This had never happened to the master from 2003 in the DEL before. Thus, of the seven teams in the group, only six clubs are in fact fighting for a place in the playoffs. Wolfsburg, who is sixth in the table, already has ten points – four fewer than the polar bears, who are third behind Bremerhaven and Iserlohn. “I think we can aim for first place in our group,” announced Berlin’s Lukas Reichel, who scored the 5: 1 (46th). In the evening, the Fischtown Pinguins from Bremerhaven fought the Kölner Haie 4: 3 (2: 2, 1: 1, 1: 0) and after their sixth win in a row they remain the leaders in the north. The Haie suffered their fourth defeat in a row.
In the more strongly rated southern group, top favorite Adler Mannheim trembled five days after the first defeat of the season to a 3: 2 (2: 0, 1: 1, 1: 0) at the Nürnberg Ice Tigers. Nicolas Krämmer decided the game on Sunday with a converted penalty in the final third (52nd). Previously, the bottom of the group south had temporarily equalized the game with two goals from Christopher Brown (27./45.). Mannheim had already led 2-0 through goals from Jason Blast (4th) and Felix Schütz (12th).
“In the second period we didn’t play well at all, but came back to our game in the last period,” said Kremmer after the game. His team had lost the south-west derby against Schwenningen 1: 3 on Tuesday. With the win on Sunday, coach Pavel Gross’ team remains the leader of the table in the south with 18 points from eight games, ahead of EHC Red Bull Munich (15), who defeated the Schwenninger Wild Wings 6-4 (1-4, 2-0 , 3-0) had defeated.
