Krefeld The goalkeeper planned as number three has now become the crowd’s favorite. And for sports director Sergey Saveljev he is even one of the best goalkeepers in the German ice hockey league.
The Krefeld Penguins are guests of the German Ice Hockey League on Friday at 7.30 p.m. at the Iserlohn Roosters and receive them on Sunday at 7 p.m. in the Yayla-Arena Bremerhaven.

In Iserlohn, the penguins are facing an explosive duel. There are now six former Krefelders in the ranks of the Sauerland. The squad is led by Martin Schymainski and Torsten Ankert, both of whom were captains of the black and yellow. In Philip Riefers, a native of Krefeld, who was trained here, is part of the Roosters’ squad. Strikers Kris Foucault, Eugen Alanov and Travis Ewanyk complete the sextet. Schymainski is making his debut with the Sauerland team after terminating his contract with the Penguins this week.

The contract with the 181 centimeter tall goalkeeper, who was originally only planned as number three, was prematurely extended by one year. After the departure of Schymainski, this is also balm for the fan soul, because the goalkeeper, who often shows spectacular parades, is the fans’ new darling. Understandable, because the upswing after the change of coach is also closely linked to Sihlin. The goalkeeper shone on his debut on matchday five in Mannheim (2: 3 after extra time) and helped win the first point of the season. The goalkeeper, who was born in Omsk, Russia, was in the squad twelve times. With a catch rate of 93.1 percent and an average of 2.68 conceded goals per match, he ranks ninth in the goalkeeper ranking. Sports director Sergey Saveljev said of the contract extension: “Oleg has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the league and we are delighted that we can already extend his contract by one season. The new captain Laurin Braun and defender Patrik Hersley have to pass due to upper body injuries for the game in Iserlohn. This leaves the coach with seven defenders and 13 strikers.
