Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences helps those who are doubtful of their studies

From Monday, January 10th to Friday, January 14th, the “Study Doubts” theme days will take place at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences in Krefeld.

Krefeld “We want to support students and show them new perspectives,” says expert Silke Höfle. The theme days are mostly digital, but there are also first face-to-face events.
Doubts about studying – this is not uncommon. Especially after over a year of more or less digital teaching, doubts about studying are part of everyday life for many students. Therefore, from Monday, January 10th to Friday, January 14th, the “Thementage study doubts” will take place at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences, on which attention should be drawn to advisory services for students. The program contains a wide range of topics relating to doubts about studying and dropping out of studies: lectures, workshops, open online / telephone consultation hours, digital question and answer sessions, offers for relaxation. The theme days are mostly digital, but there are also first face-to-face events.

The offer is initiated by the “Next Step Niederrhein” project, a joint project between the Rhein-Waal University and the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences, which has been taking care of students who have doubts about their studies and are thinking about dropping out since 2017. The aim is to remove taboos from the subjects of study doubts and dropping out of studies and to intensify advisory services. The theme days are part of the “national theme days Studienzweifel 2022” from January 10th to 28th, in which a total of nine universities in North Rhine-Westphalia are participating.

With around 14,000 students, the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in Germany with locations in Krefeld and Mönchengladbach. With more than 80 Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, it opens up new perspectives for young people. Thanks to problem and transfer-oriented research, the university is an innovative source of inspiration for companies in the region. The Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences was founded in 1971. Its roots go back to the year 1855, when the Crefelder Higher Weaving School was founded.

The “Next Step Project” is about giving students guidance when they have doubts about their studies and, if necessary, building a bridge to alternative paths to studying and to new professional perspectives. “Especially in this time, which is characterized by uncertainty and the studies are more or less digital, we want to support students and show them new perspectives,” says Silke Höfle from the project team.

The theme days start with digital advice from the Krefeld Employment Agency, a telephone consultation on the search for training places from the IHK Mittlerer Niederrhein and a telephone consultation from the psychosocial counseling center (PSB) of the HSNR.
