A dangerous wave of downpours has arrived in Małopolska and Silesia. The night from Saturday to Sunday, as well as Sunday morning, may pass under the sign of serious difficulties for residents of Krakow and Katowice, among others.
– The centre of the Genoese low, which brings heavy rainfall, is currently over southern Poland. It is associated with a wide zone of rainfall and storms that appear over the southern, central and eastern parts of the country. On the outskirts of this low, however, a second wave of rain has formed, which has entered Poland – explains tvnmeteo.pl weather forecaster Arleta Unton-Pyziołek.
As the weather forecaster emphasizes, “this wave of rain is associated not only with continuous rainfall, but also with thunderstorms, especially in the foothill areas and in the mountains.”
– There may be lightning discharges, but strongly developing clouds will mainly bring short-term downpours – he says.

Kraków and Katowice at risk of heavy rain
The heaviest rainfall is expected on the night from Saturday to Sunday and in the first part of the day in Małopolska, Upper Silesia and the Opole region.
In Kraków, continuous rainfall, temporarily heavy, is forecast from around 10 p.m. on Saturday to 2 a.m. on Sunday. Rainfall will average 60 litres per square metre, although locally it may reach 80 litres/m2 if a storm passes over. The situation may be worse to the south and southwest of the city, where up to 100 l/m2 may fall.
In Katowice, 60-80 l/m2 of rain is expected to fall throughout the night, with thunderstorms also possible. South of the capital of Silesia, rainfall will be heavier and will amount to about 100 l/m2.
