Krakatau Steel Exports 30,000 Metric Tons of Hot Rolled Coil to Italy for Marcegaglia Steel Carbon SPA – Nation’s Third Highest Export Industry.

The Indonesian steel industry continues to thrive in exports, contributing to the country’s surplus in foreign exchange. Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan released an export consignment of 30 thousand metric tons of hot rolled coil (HRC) to Italy for Marcegaglia Steel Carbon SPA from state-owned steel company PT Krakatau Steel in Cilegon, Banten. The steel industry ranks third in exports, following coal and palm oil. Krakatau Steel has become a significant contributor to Indonesia’s exports, which has reached Rp900 trillion, equivalent to US$54 billion. With a total production of 5.6 million tons per year, Krakatau Steel exports to Italy, Portugal, Germany, Turkey, Greece, Spain, and Pakistan, proving that domestic steel products can compete well in developed countries in Europe. Krakatau Steel’s President Director, Purwono Widodo is optimistic that the government will continue to provide support in increasing the utilization of the domestic steel industry to meet the world’s demand.
