KPU Releases Rules and Schedule for Presidential Candidate Campaigns in Indonesia

Jakarta

General Election Commissions (KPU) RI has released the rules and schedule for grand campaigns or general meeting campaigns, presidential and vice presidential candidates and political parties. The KPU ensures that it will reprimand political parties and candidate pairs who campaign outside the rules.

“Later you will receive a warning if it is true that the campaign is outside the specified schedule and campaign. This is not just zoning, but there is also a schedule,” said the Chairman of the Indonesian KPU, Hasyim Asy’ari, to journalists at the KPU Office, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Monday (22/1/2023).

Hasyim then explained the differences between general meeting methods and limited meetings. General meeting activities were carried out without a specific invitation. Anyone can attend the event.

Meanwhile, the meeting method is limited, the number of participants is limited to invitations from certain parties only. Hasyim conveyed this when answering journalists’ questions regarding one of the candidate pairs who was campaigning outside his grand campaign zone on Sunday (21/1/2024) yesterday.

“So we have to be careful when we see events where there are campaign meetings, either held by political parties or carried out by the candidate pairs themselves or campaigns of candidate pairs together with political parties. We also have to make sure which category the method in question falls into. What’s different is once again “whether there is an invitation or not. If it is an open invitation, without specifying the names of the people invited, it falls into the category of a general meeting,” explained Hasyim.

“That’s why if there is an incident that was asked about, we need to first ascertain what the situation is like in the field,” he said.

Hasyim also explained that his party had held a meeting with political parties and candidate pair teams regarding the zoning schedule for this grand campaign. From there it was agreed that the zoning of the presidential and vice presidential candidates was in line with the political parties supporting them.

If you refer to the KPU’s decision letter which has determined the grand campaign schedule for the presidential and vice presidential candidates and their supporting political parties. These regulations are contained in KPU Decree Number 78 of 2024 concerning Determination of the General Election Campaign Schedule Using the General Meeting Method for the 2024 General Election.
