KPN will stop hosting services Xs4all as of October 1 – IT Pro – News

KPN will stop hosting services under its Xs4all brand name on 1 October. The provider informs customers that they must transfer their domain name reservation, web hosting or e-mail on their own domain name to another party before that time.

KPN’s Xs4all reports the discontinuation of hosting services as of October 1 in an email to customers and on the website xs4all.nl/hostingdiensten. In practice, the step means that the provider will stop with domain name reservation, e-mail on domain and web hosting. Customers who purchase these services must cancel them or switch to another provider. For this last step, Xs4all provides a transfer code, with which a third party can take over the domain name. Anyone who has not yet taken any action on October 1 will automatically lose access to the services.

The Xs4all Moet Stay action committee makes the link with the merger of Xs4all into KPN and speaks of ‘dismantling in secret’, because the change has not yet been communicated to all customers and the hostingpagina of Xs4all is still online. The provider Freedom, created via the action committee and dissatisfied customers who did not agree with KPN’s intention to discontinue Xs4all, would now like to offer its shared hosting services to customers more quickly.

KPN announced at the beginning of 2019 to stop using Xs4all, but after much criticism, running away from customers and setting up an alternative provider by critics, the company announced in early 2020 that the brand name is nevertheless maintained, with the promise that customers would receive the same service from the same team. However, as part of the integration into KPN, the infrastructure of Xs4all would be merged with that of KPN and the separate bv and the works council would be discontinued.
