KPN started offering eSIM today

As of today, KPN customers can opt for the eSIM via MijnKPN. This option will only be available for new customers in a few weeks. Switching to the eSIM is free, activation is done via the MijnKPN app.

From e.g is in many new smartphones, tablets and other gadgets. Users can then, for example, take out their fixed subscription with eSIM and buy a prepaid eSIM on holiday, without having to change physical SIM cards.

T-Mobile introduced last year all the eSIM for its customers, as well as Truphone and Simyo. This followed in June also Vodafone.


Smartwatch

The eSIM is also a way to put a SIM card in a smartwatch, where there is no place for a SIM card. For example, Apple has been releasing a version of the Apple Watch with 4G internet for a few years now, which also has a data and telephone connection without a paired iPhone. However, those models have not yet appeared in the Netherlands. It is not yet known when this will happen.

KPN also says no support for the Apple Watch via eSIM. Other smartwatches are not yet supported by the provider.
