KPN raises internet prices: ‘But we don’t follow inflation’

KPN made the price changes this morning known† Not all internet packages are becoming more expensive: the subscription with the largest bandwidth (1Gbit/s) remains the same in price.

According to a spokesperson, KPN chooses not to ‘follow inflation’. “Our prices increase by an average of 3.5 percent, while the inflation figures are much higher. We therefore do not pass on part of our higher costs due to the increased data use and inflation to the customers,” he explains. “With these price changes, we can maintain our good results and quality.”

The prices of the TV packages remain unchanged. “There are no major changes in the TV offer,” said the spokesperson. Digitenne prices and call rates also remain the same.

Data usage is rising fast

Due to working from home and the popularity of streaming services, data consumption is increasing by 15 to 20 percent per year, according to KPN. The company therefore wants to ‘continue to invest in the quality of the services, but also in safety’. KPN announced Friday in its quarterly figures that both profit and turnover had increased.

Ziggo

Competitor Ziggo recently announced the internet speeds of a number of subscriptions increase† In previous years, an announcement of price increases followed a few weeks later.
