KPN now has more customers who use fiber optic than the copper network. According to the company an important turning point in KPN’s history.
Glazing
A fast and stable fixed internet connection is crucial for the further digitization of our country. That is why KPN is glassing large parts of the Netherlands, according to KPN in a press release. A huge operation; more than 4000 construction workers connect about 8000 houses every week. That is about 1200 per day, 150 per hour and 2.5 per minute. And that every day. At the end of April, KPN reported that it had connected 3.4 million Dutch households to fiber.
Glass gate
There should be many more by the end of 2026, then KPN wants to work with Glaspoort joint venture, about 80% of the Netherlands have connected to fiber optic. Connecting is one thing, actually using the fiber optic cable is the next step. Neighborhood by neighborhood fiber is being rolled out and residents are approached to make the switch.
More networks
In addition to KPN, T-Mobile is also working in collaboration with Open Dutch Fiber on the construction of various fiber optic networks in the Netherlands. Meanwhile, T-Mobile and Open Dutch Fiber have already announced 500,000 households that will receive fiber optic. Incidentally, the construction of a fiber optic network also causes nuisance in the form of damage to gas and water pipes as well as nuisance by the performers themselves.
