KPK Deputy Was Shocked to Death When He Knew RI’s Corruption Perception Index had dropped

Jakarta

Corruption perception index (CPI) Indonesia will drop four points in 2022 to 34. This figure apparently surprised one of the KPK deputies.

“So the first time I was called yesterday was shocked to death, really just 34,” said KPK Deputy for Prevention Pahala Nainggolan at the Pullman Hotel, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (31/1/2023).

Pahala said that since 2014, Indonesia’s corruption perception index has not been able to pass 40. He believes that a breakthrough has to be made to overcome this problem.

“So if these 34 from the KPK said that this would not become a ritual every year we would come to hear after two or three days of discussing it, everyone was busy discussing it, thank God later they forgot,” he said.

“See you again next year Mas Wawan (Wawan Suyatmiko, Manager of the Transparency International Indonesia Research Department) hold the data. That’s what we have to do if this continues, believe me it won’t pass barrier 40,” added Pahala.

According to Pahala, one of the breakthroughs to prevent corrupt practices in Indonesia is related to the budget for political parties. He asked for an increase in the budget for political parties to reduce political dowries.

“Everyone knows that political parties have no source of money, apart from very little government assistance. We are desperate to propose that we strengthen the political parties. The question is indeed Is there a guarantee that if the party is strong there will be no corruption? Yes, nothing,” said Pahala.

However, this breakthrough, said Pahala, was able to prevent corruption due to expensive political dowries.

“But there are logical efforts if the political party is strong and then sanctioned if it doesn’t open up, for example. Then we ask for accountability for its cadres who sit in the government or who sit in the DPR,” said Pahala.

Pahala further said that a breakthrough to strengthen the eradication of corruption must start from the budget system in political parties. He believes that if this is corrected, the corruption perception index in Indonesia will rise above 40.

“So it actually feels like if it is predicted there will be no more than 40 if there is no breakthrough and someone has to take the lead. Moreover, if there are many institutions and local government activities, someone has to lead and monitor in detail,” Pahala explained.

“Political parties should never be forgotten. The bad cadres are in government institutions, in the DPR, budgetary politics comes from him. Budgets are irrational, yes, but don’t be too irrational, please,” he added.
